The Comedy Awards 2012: Coming May 6 9/8c on Comedy Central

Eddie Murphy to Receive Inaugural Comedy Icon Award at The Comedy Awards

With the taping of the first annual Comedy Awards just days away, new details about the ceremony are beginning to come out. Today, it was announced that the distinguished Comedy Icon Award will be presented to the legendary Eddie Murphy.

Each year, the Comedy Icon Award will honor an innovator whose work has transformed the world of comedy and indelibly influenced those who followed, so it's no surprise that Eddie Murphy would be selected as the award's first recipient. After all, at 19 he became one of SNL's biggest stars ever, and in the three decades that have since passed, he's gone on to become one of the top comedic talents in stand-up and film, starring in such modern classics as Eddie Murphy Delirious, Beverly Hills Cop and The Nutty Professor.

To see Eddie Murphy accept the Comedy Icon Award, be sure to tune-in Sunday, April 10 at 9/8c when The Comedy Awards will be broadcast simultaneously on Comedy Central, Spike TV, CMT, Logo, TV Land, VH1 and Nick at Nite.
