Don Rickles to Receive The Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence
Following in the footsteps of last year's inaugural honoree, David Letterman, comedy legend Don Rickles will be the recipient of The Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence at this year's second annual Comedy Awards.
One of the biggest stand-up headliners in America for over half-a-century, Rickles is perhaps best known for turning insult-comedy into an art-form, but his career has also seen him excel as a performer on television and in films as varied as Martin Scorsese's Casino and Pixar's Toy Story trilogy. And by many accounts, his trajectory toward stardom began in 1956 when he made his much-talked-about debut on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, making the award all the more appropriate.
Presenting this year's award will be Jon Stewart, who has hosted Rickles as a guest on The Daily Show on multiple occasions.
Rickles joins the previously announced Robin Williams, who will be honored with this year's Stand-Up Icon Award. Watch the presentation of those awards and many others when the second annual Comedy Awards premieres Sunday, May 6 at 9/8c on Comedy Central.
